OUR RATING ★★★★☆

TODAYS BEST PRICE: £59.95 from Amazon

The Flymo Easimo is a good looking four wheeled budget rotary mower from Flymo.  With a 32 cm  (12 inch) cutting width it’s squarely aimed at small to medium sized gardens.  Sitting at the budget end of the price range, is it any good ?

First impressions are good – the Flymo Easimo is a neat looking lawn mower and looks like it should cost more than it does.  It’s also got wheels making this a rotary mower rather than a hover mower so that bodes well – we’re not fans of hover mowers as they tend to scatter the grass cuttings rather than collect them.

But it doesn’t just look good – it’s got some good features.  The cutting height can be adjusted in three steps from 20 mm to 60 mm and the front wheels are inset so that it can cut right up to the edge of your lawn or along a wall.

The 29 litre grass box is slightly bigger than average for an electric lawn mower of this size and it’s easy to empty thanks to its built-in handle.  And the main handle folds in half so that it takes up less room in your shed or garage when it’s not in use.

It’s also extremely light at just a shade over 8 kg.  Although there’s no built-in carrying handle for the mower itself the flymo Easimo is light enough to carry one-handed

So what are the downsides ?

Well, at 900 Watts the motor isn’t really up to cutting long grass but copes fine with regular length grass and adjusting the cutting height isn’t that easy as you need to turn it over and adjust the height of the wheel axles.  However, in a small garden you’re less likely to need to adjust the cutting height midway through cutting the lawn so this may not be too much of an issue.

As befits an electric lawn mower designed for small gardens Flymo have fitted a 10 metre long power cable which is a little short – you’ll almost certainly need an extension lead unless your garden is the size of a postage stamp.

Like with just about every other electric lawn mower this one arrives partially assembled but you won’t need a degree in rocket science to assemble it.  All you need to do is to push the two halves of the grass box together and then fit the handle with two screws – we had ours up and running in just over ten minutes.

As we mentioned above, the 900 Watt motor isn’t great on long grass as it simply lacks the grunt to get through it but on regular length grass the Flymo Easimo works surprisingly well and even left a faint stripe behind although this was gone within a couple of hours.  It didn’t pick up all of the grass cuttings but it got most of them and emptying out the grass box was a doddle.

The flymo Easimo is best suited to small to medium sized lawns which are fairly smooth and which are regularly cut so if this sounds like your garden and you’re on a budget then the Flymo Easimo could be for you.  If not then the Bosch Rotak 32R would be a better bet as it can cope longer grass better thanks to its better motor.
