Lawncare Calendar: April
Once the clocks have changed and the cooler temperatures of March have been left behind your grass should begin growing a little more vigorously. If it does then you’ll need to stay on top of it to ensure that it doesn’t get too long.
Any areas of grass that are thin can either be reseeded or tured but take care to dig the turf in so that you keep the levels the same. This will make it easier to cut the grass later in the month and will help to ensure that the edges of the turf bind with the surrounding grass. Any areas of coarse grass can be dug and reseeded or turfed in the same way.
April is a good time of year to apply a lawn fertiliser which will help to strengthen the grass later in the year but take care not to use any fertiliser on newly sown or young grass.
If you’ve got lots of weeds in your lawn then rather than use straight fertiliser you could substitute it for a ‘weed and feed’ type product of which there are many different ones on the market.
